Press Room
Taiwanese IP STB Industry to See Continued Growth in 2006
June 20, 2006

According to Market Intelligence Center (MIC), in the first quarter of 2006, Taiwanese IP STB (Internet Protocol Set-Top Box) shipment volume reached 371,000 units, up 205.3% year-on-year, while shipment value grew approximately 211.7% year-on-year, to US$45.2 million.

Looking at the development of the worldwide IPTV market in the coming quarters, in North America Verizon and SBC are actively increasing IPTV service points, and major telecoms in European countries such as Austria and Belgium are launching IPTV services, boosting overall growth in IPTB subscribers in Europe. Furthermore, branded vendors, such as SA and Pace, are expected to give IP STB orders to Taiwanese makers. In Europe demand for IP STBs with well-developed exterior designs and integrated functions will increase rapidly, becoming another focal point for telecoms as they endeavor to attract IPTV subscribers with the appeal of low-cost integrated broadband services.

Boosted by the these developments, the Taiwanese IP STB industry is expected to see a shipment volume of approximately 423,700 and 565,900 units respectively in the second and third quarter, representing growth rates of 159.9% and 93.1% year-on-year.
